Accompanying the Dying | End of Life Caregiver Workbook / Hospice, Grief & Caregiving Companion
Accompanying the Dying is a 103-page digital workbook created for family members, friends, caregivers, and loved ones who are walking beside someone approaching the end of life. It was created from my experience as an end-of-life doula for the last 15 years and is designed to offer something I believe caregivers deeply need: practical guidance alongside space for their own experience.
This is not simply a checklist of what happens when someone is dying.
It is a companion for the person sitting beside the bed.
Inside, you’ll find gentle education, practical caregiving tools, reflection exercises, journal prompts, grounding practices, ritual, grief support, and space to explore the complicated emotions that can accompany caring for someone who is dying.
The workbook moves through 12 sections, including:
- Entering the Threshold
- The Person I Am Accompanying
- The Dying Body
- The Practice of Staying
- Your Body at the Bedside
- The Family Around the Bed
- Ritual & Meaning
- When Death Comes Closer
- When Death Happens
- After the Room Becomes Quiet
- Grief & Integration
- What the Dying Taught Me
You’ll explore questions around fear, control, dignity, consent, changing communication, family dynamics, caregiver exhaustion, difficult emotions, bedside presence, ritual, the final hours, the first moments after death, grief, continuing bonds, and eventually — returning to your own life.
WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE
Digital Fillable PDF & Printable version PDF — 103 pages
The workbook is designed so you can type directly into the provided fields on your computer or compatible device, allowing it to become a personal record of your experience.
The pages include generous spaces for reflection, journaling, notes and practical information. The workbook itself encourages you to move through it in order or simply open the section you need that day — there is no expectation that every page must be completed.
CREATED FOR REAL CAREGIVING
Caregiving at the end of life can hold love and exhaustion at the same time.
There may be tenderness, fear, anger, uncertainty, relief, resentment, beauty, grief — sometimes all within the same day.
This workbook makes room for that.
Rather than asking you to become an expert in dying, it encourages presence, listening, consent, boundaries and care for your own body alongside the person you are accompanying. Accompanying_the_Dying_DIGITAL_…
You do not have to do this perfectly.
IMPORTANT
This is a DIGITAL PRODUCT. No physical book or product will be mailed to you.
This workbook supports reflection, communication and caregiving. It does not replace medical care, hospice or palliative services, therapy, emergency services, legal advice, or culturally specific death practices. Medical or clinical concerns should always be brought to the appropriate healthcare team.
